Obverse description Central field displays the papal coat of arms of Clement XII (Lorenzo Corsini), consisting of a quartered shield surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter, rendered in moderate relief. The shield bears the heraldic devices of the Corsini family. The entire design is encircled by a plain inner field and a boldly beaded border. The Latin legend is divided across the coin face and reads CLEM • XII • P • M •, identifying the reigning pontiff.
