Obverse description The papal coat of arms of Benedict XIV is displayed centrally in the field, featuring a vertically striped escutcheon surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield is flanked by the ornate crossed keys, tied with a cord, in the baroque style typical of mid-18th century papal coinage. A circular legend surrounds the design, reading BENED·XIV PON·M·A·XII, identifying the pontiff and his regnal year. The entire design is contained within a beaded border.
