Obverse description Right-facing bust of Giovanni II Bentivoglio in high Renaissance style, depicted wearing a flat-crowned cap (berretta) with long hair falling in strands over the shoulders and a lightly draped collar at the truncation. The portrait is rendered with fine engraving characteristic of late 15th-century Italian medallic art, set within a beaded inner border. The surrounding legend reads IOANNES BENTIVOLVS II BONONIENSIS, identifying the signore of Bologna.
