| Additional information |
Ferdinando Ferrero held the abbacy of Fruttuaria as a commendam appointment — a practice by which secular or ecclesiastical figures drew income from an abbey without fulfilling monastic duties. The Ferrero family, prominent Piedmontese nobles with deep ties to the Savoy court, accumulated multiple such benefices throughout the sixteenth century. Coinage struck under commendam abbots is often irregular in output and short in series, which accounts for the relative obscurity of this quarto within Italian States numismatics.
MIR 876 is documented but seldom appears at auction.
