| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Abdulaziz, the imperial Ottoman calligraphic monogram rendered in high relief with characteristic interlaced vertical strokes, sweeping horizontal loops, and pendant flourishes. The tughra fills the majority of the flan, with fine floral arabesques flanking the upper extensions. A reeded border surrounds the design, and the regnal year 1277 (AH) appears in Arabic numerals at the base of the composition. |
