The Saudi 1 Qirsh denomination was redefined as 5 Halalāt under the decimal system formalized in the 1960s, and coins of this type were issued continuously by SAMA through the latter decades of the twentieth century with little variation — a deliberate policy of monetary continuity during periods of rapid economic change driven by oil revenues. Reign attributions on Saudi coinage shifted with each king, making the Fahd-era pieces a distinct subset despite identical specifications to earlier types.
