| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a rectangular cartouche with ornate scrollwork borders at top and bottom, enclosing a multi-line calligraphic Arabic legend in Nasta'liq script proclaiming the royal titles of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. The cartouche is framed by an inner beaded border and an outer raised rim decorated with a continuous row of beads. Floral and foliate arabesques fill the spaces between the cartouche and the beaded border, imparting a richly decorative character typical of mid-nineteenth-century Qajar coinage. |
