Osman III ruled the Ottoman Empire for under three years before his death in 1757, and provincial mints like Tunis operated with considerable autonomy during his reign — accounting for the frequent weight and module inconsistencies seen across Tunisian copper fractions of this period. The qafsi denomination itself was a purely local accounting unit, with no direct Ottoman equivalent.
