Additional information

Rottenburg am Neckar's counterstamping of Bohemian Prague Groschen reflects a pragmatic municipal response to the chronic shortage of reliable silver coinage in southwestern Germany during the late 14th century. Rather than strike original coinage — an expensive and politically fraught undertaking — the city simply validated foreign silver already circulating locally by punching its own mark.

The Prague Groschen itself was among the most trusted coins in medieval central Europe, minted at Kutná Hora from exceptionally pure Bohemian silver. Krussy R8,6 is a scarce type; few municipal counterstamps from this region and period survive with secure attribution.
