Obverse description The obverse features the Arabic inscription of the country name 'Arab Republic of Egypt' arranged in an arc along the upper periphery, with a large central calligraphic legend reading 'One Pound' in Arabic script. The Hijri date ١٣٩٩ (1399 AH) appears to the right and the Gregorian date ١٩٧٩ (1979) to the left in the lower field. An ornamental arabesque floral scroll motif runs along the lower rim, framed by a denticulated inner border encircling the entire design.
