The Vingtaine du Mont au Prêtre was one of Jersey's smallest civil subdivisions — a vingtaine being a parish sub-unit, essentially a local administrative district within the Parish of St Helier. That such a body was issuing its own pound notes in 1834 speaks to the genuinely fragmented state of Jersey's monetary arrangements in the pre-Victorian period, when the absence of a central island bank left civic and commercial entities to fill the gap.
Perkins, Bacon & Petch brought steel engraving technology to the job — the same security printing approach they were applying to postage stamps and colonial banknotes across the Empire during this period. The JN#240.2 reference suggests at least one variant exists within this issue.
