| Obverse description | The face is printed in intaglio over a green guilloche underprint, centred on a bold letterpress panel bearing the bank title THE UNION BANK OF AUSTRALIA LIMITED, with the promise text and denomination ONE POUND STERLING in script below, dated 1st October 1923 and place of issue WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND. An upper vignette presents Britannia seated on a chariot, while an oval portrait vignette of Queen Victoria occupies the lower left. Numeral 1 appears in oval cartouches at each corner, with serial number panels positioned at the left and right margins. |
