Susanne Mubarak, wife of President Hosni Mubarak, is an unusual subject for a circulating-weight coin — this issue commemorates her patronage of the Egyptian National Reading Festival, a literacy initiative she championed through the Suzanne Mubarak Women of Egypt Association. Within a year of this coin's release, Hosni Mubarak had been deposed during the 2011 Arab Spring uprising, and pieces bearing her name quietly disappeared from official promotion.
