Obverse description A royal crest with a portrait of George I occupies the upper central portion of the note as the principal vignette. The lower left carries a vignette of Britannia, balanced at the lower right by an allegorical figure of Plenty, the two flanking the main letterpress text block in the classical compositional style characteristic of Scottish private bank issues of the period. The obligation text, printed in a formal typographic arrangement, runs across the central field.

Reverse description The reverse is entirely unprinted, presenting a plain paper surface. Faint show-through of the obverse text and vignettes is discernible owing to the relatively thin paper stock employed for this early issue.
