Obverse description A central vignette of a sailing ship at top centre, flanked by guilloche panels bearing the denomination ONE POUND in large ornate letterpress numerals. The border is formed by a fine geometric guilloche frame with decorative corner rosettes. The issuer name arcs across the top and bottom margins, with the date and signature of the authorising officer appearing below the central panel.

Reverse description The entire reverse is dominated by an elaborate guilloche rosette of concentric lace-work circles in blue, at the centre of which sits an interlaced NB monogram within a fine engine-turned medallion. Numeral 1 panels in matching guilloche work flank the central medallion to the left and right. The overall design relies entirely on intricate lathe-work patterns with no pictorial vignette.
