Egypt's National Research Center, founded in 1956 as part of Nasser's broader push to build domestic scientific infrastructure following the revolution, was commemorated with this issue on what was likely an institutional anniversary. Gold commemoratives of this period from the Cairo Mint were produced in small quantities almost exclusively for presentation and export sale, meaning most never entered circulation at all.
