Obverse description The obverse features the Arabic legend of the Arab Republic of Egypt arranged in a decorative calligraphic field, with the country name inscribed in naskh script along the upper portion. The denomination 'One Pound' is rendered prominently in large naskh characters at centre, flanked by the Hijri year 1400 on the right and the Gregorian year 1979 on the left. A stylised floral or arabesque ornament occupies the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and a patterned outer rim.
