Obverse description A panoramic intaglio vignette of Douglas harbour occupies the upper portion of the note, rendered in fine line engraving with vessels in the foreground and the town and hills beyond. The bank title "ISLE OF MAN BANK LIMITED" is set in bold serif letterpress beneath the vignette, with the promise-to-pay text inscribed in ornate script across the centre over an elaborate red guilloche underprint. Armorial cartouches occupy the lower corners — the left bearing the Manx coat of arms with the motto REX MANNIAE ET INSULARUM, the right bearing the triskele with QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT — while denomination numeral "1" appears within guilloche panels at each upper corner.
