| Obverse description | The field displays the Arabic legend 'جمهورية مصر العربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) in large calligraphic script occupying the upper portion of the coin. The dual dates AH 1397 and AD 1977 are inscribed horizontally across the centre, flanking the vertical axis. Below the dates, the denomination 'جنيه واحد' (One Pound) is rendered in prominent Arabic calligraphy, with the FAO-related inscriptions 'التوفير التنمية' (Saving, Development) flanking the lower field. A decorative denticled border runs along the inner rim. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a dynamic composition of stylized human figures representing various categories of labor and industry arranged radially around a central sunflower motif, evoking the FAO theme of agricultural and industrial development. Workers are depicted engaged in diverse occupations including farming, construction, craftsmanship, and other trades, rendered in a flat relief style inspired by ancient Egyptian artistic conventions. The figures surround the central design in a full circle, filling the field from rim to rim. A fine denticled border frames the entire composition along the inner edge of the rim. |

| Additional information |
Issued as part of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization coin program, which ran through the 1970s and recruited dozens of member nations to mint commemorative pieces promoting agricultural development and food security initiatives. Egypt's participation fit the political moment — the country was in the middle of Sadat's economic liberalization program, Infitah, which opened Egypt to foreign investment and represented a deliberate pivot away from Nasser-era socialist policy.
.720 fine silver was the standard alloy chosen for Egyptian commemoratives of this period, keeping production costs below sterling while maintaining enough intrinsic value to justify the denomination.
