Obverse description Intaglio vignette of a full-rigged sailing ship at anchor in a harbour occupies the centre and left of the note, set against a radiating sunburst guilloche background. Bilingual bank titles in letterpress appear along the top border — 'SOUTH AFRICAN RESERVE BANK' — and along the bottom — 'ZUIDAFRIKAANSE RESERVEBANK'. To the right of the vignette, the promise-to-pay text, denomination 'ONE POUND / EEN POND', issue date '1 September 1928', and the Governor's manuscript signature are arranged in a vertical panel.
