Obverse description The obverse features the second definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Arnold Machin, presenting a right-facing draped bust of the Queen wearing a tiara, her hair dressed and pinned beneath the crown. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend ELIZABETH THE SECOND arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 1983 flanked by two raised dots positioned at the base of the coin. The initials PM, denoting the Pobjoy Mint, appear as part of the legend.
