Alderney's legal tender commemorative program has long operated as a revenue vehicle for the Crown Dependency, issuing gold miniatures under British authority but with no expectation of circulation. This 2008 piece marks the centenary of the Model T's introduction — Ford began production in October 1908 at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit, building a car explicitly priced for working Americans rather than the wealthy.
The one-pound denomination on a 1.24g gold flan is purely nominal; the melt value alone vastly exceeds face value.
