Grouville parish, on Jersey's eastern coast, is best known as the site of the Battle of Jersey in 1781, when a French invasion force under Baron de Rullecourt was defeated — de Rullecourt himself killed — by British and local militia forces. The parish series of which this coin is part was issued to mark the 300th anniversary of that engagement, with each denomination paired to a specific parish rather than any pan-island theme.
KM#69a is the silver proof variant; a cupro-nickel circulation strike exists as KM#69.
