Reverse description The reverse, designed by Stuart Devlin, features a stylised depiction of Edinburgh Castle perched prominently upon rocky volcanic crags at the centre of the composition, enclosed within a circular inner frame. Flanking the castle below are three roundels bearing heraldic devices associated with the City of Edinburgh: to the lower left a shield charged with a cross and sword, to the lower centre a rampant lion, and to the lower right a sailing vessel. The denomination legend ONE POUND arcs across the upper field in bold raised lettering, with EDINBURGH completing the inscription, all rendered in a contemporary graphic style characteristic of Devlin's civic series designs.
