Saint Helena's mint facility — operated by the East India Company brand revived as a commercial entity — has positioned the island as an increasingly active player in the bullion coin market since the mid-2010s. The Britannia design choice here is pointed: Saint Helena's entire modern existence as a British Overseas Territory traces directly to the East India Company's use of the island as a victualling station from 1659, making the iconographic reference something other than coincidence.
