Reverse description A theropod dinosaur, resembling a velociraptor, is depicted in full figure standing in a dynamic three-quarter pose occupying the central field. The large numeral 1 appears to the lower left of the dinosaur, serving as the denomination indicator. The legend BRIDGEMAN ISLAND arcs along the upper rim. The design is executed against a deeply mirrored proof field, enhancing the contrast with the frosted relief of the dinosaur motif.

Additional information

Bridgeman Island is a remote, ice-capped volcanic island in the South Sandwich chain, lying roughly 60 kilometres northeast of Montagu Island. It sees virtually no human traffic and has never supported a permanent settlement. The British Antarctic Territory itself was formally established by Order in Council in 1962, partly to consolidate British claims ahead of anticipated disputes under the Antarctic Treaty framework — a framework that simultaneously rendered those territorial claims legally inert among signatory nations.

Coins issued under BAT authority are legal tender in name only; the territory has no resident civilian population to spend them.
