| Reverse description | Central composition depicts Alice seated alongside the Cheshire Cat perched in the branches of a tree, drawn from Lewis Carroll's celebrated narrative. The figures are rendered in detailed high relief, capturing the whimsical character of the original story. The legend identifying the series is positioned to the right of the main design within the field. The overall composition was engraved by Ffion Gwillim and reflects the stylised illustrative tradition associated with the Alice canon. |

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll's original publication — though Carroll himself was a mathematics lecturer at Oxford who wrote the story for Alice Liddell, daughter of the college dean, in 1862, nine years before the commemorative date this coin technically observes. The Royal Mint has produced numerous collector series around British literary figures, but the Wonderland release attracted unusual crossover interest from Carroll collectors and book antiquarians outside the usual numismatic market.
