Reverse description A naturalistically rendered leek, the heraldic emblem of Wales, depicted upright in the centre of the field with its broad flat leaves fanning outward above and the fibrous root system splaying below. The bulb of the leek is surmounted by the Royal Crown, lending the design an heraldic dignity befitting the coin's national symbolism. The denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in two lines along the lower portion of the field, and the entire design is contained within a fine beaded border. The composition, engraved by Leslie Durbin, forms part of a series of one pound coins celebrating the nations of the United Kingdom.
