Reverse description A naturalistic Scottish thistle in full bloom, rendered in fine relief with detailed spiny foliage and multiple flowering heads, rising from a Royal Crown in the centre of the field. The crown rests on a curved branch with roots visible below, symbolising the heraldic emblem of Scotland. The denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in raised letters along the lower arc of the coin, within a continuous inner ring of beading that frames the entire design. The reverse was engraved by Leslie Durbin.
