Gibraltar's "Unseen Effigies" series documents the official portrait progressions of the British monarchy — each coin pairing consecutive coinage effigies that never appeared together on circulating currency. The sixth-decade pairing combines the fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley and used from 1998, with the first official coinage portrait of Charles III by Martin Jennings, adopted across Commonwealth territories from 2023.
Gibraltar has historically moved faster than the Royal Mint in releasing commemorative pairings of this kind, exploiting its status as a British Overseas Territory with its own issuing authority.
