Obverse description The upper register bears the bank's royal arms vignette flanked by two circular guilloche medallions each carrying the numeral "1", with the arched inscription "Incorporated by Royal Charter 1746" above; a seated allegorical female figure within an oval guilloche frame appears at centre-left. The letterpress promise-to-pay text and denomination "One Pound Sterling" occupy the central field, with date and serial numbers printed in the upper margin. Two manuscript signatures with their respective titles appear at the foot of the note.
