Obverse description The national coat of arms of the Republic of Cyprus occupies the central field, depicting a dove in flight carrying an olive branch above the date 1960, symbolizing the year of independence. The shield is rendered in relief and flanked by laurel branches extending around the lower portion of the design. A beaded or plain inner circle frames the central device. The circumferential legend reads 'CYPRUS · ΚΥΠΡΟΣ · KIBRIS' in Latin and Greek scripts, representing the island's two official languages alongside the English name. The issue year 1989 also appears within the legend.
