| Reverse description | Printed in black ink with a red underprint, the reverse is dominated by a large concentric circular guilloche pattern at centre, with the words FIVE PENCE rendered in red across the upper and lower arcs of the design. Two oval portrait vignettes occupy the upper corners — a military figure at upper left and a classical allegorical figure at upper right — while two further oval lathe-work panels appear at the lower corners. Elaborate floral and thistle surrounds fill each corner, and the printer's imprint appears at the foot of the design. |
