Obverse description Printed in brown on white paper with a guilloche border framing the note. An intaglio portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in tiara and jewellery appears within an oval vignette at right, while a vignette of the George Cross medal occupies the left-centre field. The denomination ONE POUND is rendered in bold letterpress across the centre, with the pound sterling symbol repeated in each upper corner.

Reverse description Printed in brown on white paper within a guilloche border, the reverse centres on a blank shield cartouche enclosed by elaborate symmetrical acanthus-leaf scrollwork executed in intaglio engraving. The printer's imprint is placed at the lower right margin.
