Bradbury Wilkinson produced Egyptian currency under a long-running arrangement that predated the 1952 Revolution by decades. This particular note falls at the end of that pre-revolutionary period — issues dated 1950 through mid-1952 were still being delivered from New Malden when the Free Officers movement toppled the monarchy in July 1952, leaving quantities of printed but unissued stock in an awkward administrative position.

The Leith-Ross signature variant is the earlier of the two known signatories for this pick number. Sir Frederick Leith-Ross had a long involvement with Egyptian monetary affairs stretching back to the 1930s, and his name appearing on circulating notes well into the postwar period reflects how slowly the National Bank's senior appointments turned over.
