Obverse description The obverse is laid out in a horizontal format with the bold central inscription CENTRAL BANK OF NEW-BRUNSWICK / ONE POUND, surmounted by a Royal Arms vignette at centre. To the left, a figure of a hunter with a dog appears within an oval vignette, while intricate lathe-work guilloche panels and counters bearing the numeral 1 occupy the upper corners and right margin. A manuscript promise-to-pay text runs across the lower centre, dated Fredericton, 1 May 1847, with the printed legend President, Directors and Company across the top.

Reverse description The reverse is printed entirely in blue and consists of an elaborate all-over lathe-work design composed of large interlocking circular guilloche rosettes arranged symmetrically across the full width of the note, with a horizontal band of fine oval engine-turned work running through the centre. No textual inscriptions appear on this side.
