| Obverse description | The central field bears the denomination inscription 'واحد جنيه' (One Pound) rendered in bold Naskh calligraphy, flanked by the dual dates '١٩٩٦' (1996, Gregorian) to the lower left and '١٤١٧' (1417, Hijri) to the lower right. The upper border features the country legend 'جمهورية مصر العربية' (Arab Republic of Egypt) executed in ornate Kufic script within a decorative cartouche. The lower border is adorned with a symmetrical arabesque floral ornament. The entire design is framed by a toothed inner border running the full circumference of the coin. |
