Obverse description Central field displays the royal cypher of Frederik III — an elaborately interlaced crowned monogram surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial — flanked by the Hebrew word EBEN EZER (meaning 'Hitherto hath the Lord helped us', a biblical reference to the Danish victory) to the right and a stylised Tudor rose below. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads * DOMINVS * PROVIDEBIT * 1659 * F3 EBEN EZER, separated by six-petalled rosette stops, with the date 1659 appearing at the upper left. The overall composition is deeply struck in the bold Baroque manner typical of Danish commemorative gold of the period.
