| Obverse description | Central field features the three-towered Hamburg city gate (the Hammaburg) surmounted by the Hamburg eagle displayed, holding a sceptre and orb, rendered in high relief. Four oval cartouches bearing the armorial shields of the sitting consuls are arranged around the central device, each flanked by ornate scrolling ribbons inscribed with the consuls' names. In the lower exergue, an oval tablet bears the inscription COSS. The peripheral legend reads PRO SALUTE SENATUS POPULIQ HAMBURGENSIS, with VOTA BONORUM and the Roman date M·DC·LXXXXV arranged in two lines below the central device, followed by the mint-master's initials A·M at the very base. |
