Obverse description Crowned and armored half-length effigy of King Johan III facing right, brandishing a raised sword over his right shoulder while holding the Globus Cruciger in his left hand, the twin symbols of royal sovereignty. The royal figure is set within a double beaded circle, with the legend inscribed in the annular space between the two circles. Along the outermost rim, a continuous parade of 23 crowned provincial heraldic shields encircles the composition, rendered in fine detail characteristic of late sixteenth-century Swedish goldsmithing.
