Obverse description The obverse features the Irish harp, the traditional symbol of Ireland, depicted in finely detailed relief at the centre of the field. The harp is rendered in the style of the historic Brian Boru harp, with intricate decorative knotwork and Celtic ornamental detail on the soundboard and forepillar. The country name ÉIRE appears in Gaelic lettering along the left arc of the coin, with the date of issue inscribed along the right arc. A continuous beaded border runs along the entire periphery.
