Obverse description A centrally placed Irish Brian Boru harp (cláirseach) rendered in fine detail, with elaborately decorated forepillar and soundboard, occupies the field. The legend SAORSTÁT ÉIREANN, written in the Gaelic script, arcs around the left and right periphery respectively, separated by the date with '19' at lower left and '28' at lower right of the harp. A beaded inner border frames the design.
