Obverse description The central field displays the heraldic arms of the East India Company: a quartered shield bearing the crosses of St. George and the arms of England, supported on either side by two rampant lions each holding a flagstaff flying the Union Jack. Above the shield, a lion passant guardant serves as the crest atop a helm and wreath. Below the shield, a scrolled ribbon bears the legend AUSP:REG & SEN:ANG: with the date 1833 prominently positioned in the lower central field. The composition is rendered in a neoclassical engraving style typical of early nineteenth-century British colonial coinage.
