Obverse description Central field displays the balemark of the United East India Company (VOC/VEIC), consisting of the monogram 'E' surmounted by a crown and intersected by a saltire (X), all enclosed within an oval cartouche. The design is rendered in low relief on a plain field, characteristic of early Bombay Presidency copper coinage. The balemark served as the primary identifying device of the Company's commercial and monetary authority in India.
