| Obverse description | Imperial eagle displayed in the central field, facing forward with wings spread and head turned, rendered in the crude but expressive hammered style characteristic of Pisan medieval coinage. The eagle, a heraldic emblem evoking the authority of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, occupies the majority of the flan. A partial Latin legend surrounds the device along the periphery, reading FEDERIC IMPATO, an abbreviated reference to Federicus Imperator. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hammered issues of this period, with uneven edges and a somewhat rough surface texture. |
