| Obverse description | Allegorical figure of the French Republic seated left on a throne, draped in classical robes and wearing a radiate crown, holding a fasces upright in her raised right hand as a symbol of authority. To her left, a sheaf of wheat and tropical vegetation rise from the ground, while an anchor rests at her right side, alluding to maritime trade. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the upper periphery, divided left and right of the central effigy. The engraver's signature BARRE appears incuse in the lower left field, with the date 1879 prominently struck in the exergue. |
