Obverse lettering عبد الحميد ضرب في طرابلس غرب ١١٨٧
(Translation: Abdulhamid Struck in Tripoli West 1187)
Reverse description Four horizontal lines of bold Arabic legends fill the central field, divided by ruled lines, a distinctive feature of Ottoman piastres struck at provincial mints. The inscription reads the sultan's full honorific titulature: Sultan of the Two Lands and Khagan of the Two Seas, the Sultan son of the Sultan. A dotted border encircles the design. The flat, wide flan and even distribution of the legend are characteristic of the large-module piastres issued for the Tripoli regency in the late 18th century.
