Obverse description Conjoined busts of Ferdinand IV, King of Naples, and Maria Carolina of Austria, facing right, in high relief. The king is depicted in military dress with royal regalia, while the queen appears draped and coiffed in the fashion of the period. The Latin legend encircles the effigies along the outer border, attributing titles and epithets to both sovereigns. The portrait style reflects the Neoclassical court engraving tradition of late eighteenth-century southern Italy.
