Obverse description Armored bust of Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, facing right, depicted with short curly hair and a trimmed beard, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with an ornate gorget and decorative pauldron. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the late Renaissance manner. A beaded inner border frames the portrait, and the Latin legend encircles the field reading FERDINANDVS MED MAGN DVX ETRVR(IAE).
