| Reverse description | Pope Clement XI, vested in full pontifical robes, is depicted seated upon his throne within the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, delivering his Christmas homily. He is surrounded by attending cardinals and prelates arranged in the basilica's interior, rendered with considerable baroque detail. The scene commemorates the papal solemn high Mass celebrated at the Liberian Basilica. The reverse legend, divided across the field, reads BASILIC LIBER F. SEUO VOX DE THRONO, a scriptural allusion to the voice from the throne. The composition reflects the high artistic standards of the Roman pontifical mint under early eighteenth-century engravers. |
